Our Call to Live in the Spirit a Catholic Tradition

"Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
—Matthew 25:35-40

Assisting the poor and vulnerable among us is a Gospel call.   Our Catholic values, teachings, and traditions provide the foundation for the work we do in as a Catholic People as a People of Social Justice. We are called to proclaim the love of God by  working for justice and social change whether through Service, Advocacy, Convening or Empowerment.  We embrace our call work prophetically, as Jesus did in his time, to build a more just and equitable society. We serve the poorest and most vulnerable among us as we serve the poor and humble Christ.

Catholic social teachings, Scripture, and Church documents are at the root of who were are.

Social Justice

What is Social Justice? According to the Cathechism of the Catholic Church, Social Justice is the respect for the human person and their rights.  Respect for the human person and their rights flow from human dignity.  Our church teaches that human dignity is given by God and each person is  guaranteed respect by God.

What is Catholic Social Teaching?  Catholic Social Teaching (Social Doctrine) of the Church is the revelation of truth about human dignity and human solidarity.  Catholic Social Teaching is grounded in the principles of justice and peace; the moral judgments about economic and social matters required by such truth and about the demands of justice and peace.

What is Social Sin?  Social Sin is the effect of sin over time as it has affected society and its institutions.  Social Sin can create "structures of sin" by analogy, institution, stigmas and living conditions create social injustice in our society.
